A common client question is "Steve, should I have my photo shoot in the studio or outdoors?"

That's a great question and the answer is that it depends. There are a lot of factors that go into this decision. This post is meant to help answer some of these questions and to help guide make the best choice to accomplish your goals.

Outdoors

Do you have a favorite valley location? Outdoor photo shoots can showcase the unique desert climate or we can move to a downtown location and work with interesting architecture. Do you want to showcase ASU as your college? I have photographed in locations ranging from rail yards, staircases, Old Main/Palm Row, horse stables, and beautiful preserves. I love shooting unique and new places to bring out your personality.

Studio

Photography in the studio is a lot of fun! The studio offers unique looks that are not otherwise possible. Dramatic images are created by adjusting the studio lighting and strobes, A quick switch of backdrops can change the feel of an image completely. Add if you want to get out of the Arizona heat, this is a great place to be in the summer!

What's right for you?

If you are looking to take your photographs in a unique location then shooting outdoors is the answer. If you are looking for more dramatic lighting then the studio allows portraits to be created that aren't otherwise possible. And if you still can't decide, we can do both!
